1990 befann jag mig på Rödön. Jag minns ej om det var sommar eller vinter, men jag minns klart och tydligt att jag såg ett enormt morgonstånd på Bolibompa. Nästan 20 år senare visade det sig att min vän Ackepetter också mindes "morgonstsåndet i Bolibompa" - vi började tillsammans söka efter källan till minnet. SVT var inte till någon större hjälp. I am Swedish and I have to say that I did not see this coming. Americans usually have terrible accents but hers is very good, especially for an American who only spent a year in Sweden.

She did an interview with a swedish journalist she spoke swedish and she sounded really good, languages are like muscles, if you don't use them every now and then you will lose it, one has to maintain it by speaking reading listening to music watch movies etc.

A couple of lines is enough for her to be able to "speak Swedish"? If a person with a language I don't know speaks a couple of phrases I guarantee I can imitate them almost perfectly. That doesn't mean I can speak the frigging language. So stop fawining over movie stars or celebs doing that. It is part of their job, anyway. So no cookie there. Many of them come from different backgrounds, two language households, live or travel in/to foreign countries all the time etc. And, no, Sandra Bullock speaking German is NOT special as she spent the first 12 years of her life and still goes back to see the folks. And finally, as a German I find it offensive using actors playing roles of Germans who speak the language, but only with a horrible English accent.
She spoke that fluently and with hardly any US American accent (more Finnish) with so little practice so long ago!? That is above human! (read the description now) Oh... I guess that Renny was "Finlandssvensk".. The Finns that speak Swedish.

"Ja men" is technically equivalent to "yes but", although I believe that "Ja men" is used a bit more as filler words compared to in English. In this situation, it is more like "well actually".

I have heard Finnish-born people who have sounded a bit like this.
It's so perfect that Geena just happens to remember only the necessary words in Swedish to say she no longer remembers Swedish because the horrific alternative would have been that she only remembered dirty Swedish words.
